What Is CBD?

We’re here to help answer some of the most common questions you might have about CBD like what it is, what are the effects of using it, and if it’s legal.

Is CBD legal?

Although Industrial Hemp has been legalized on a federal level through the 2018 Farm Bill, we strongly encourage you to check the legal status of CBD on a per-state basis, as it varies greatly.

The U.S. Hemp Roundtable has an interactive map of the United States (link below) where you can find Hemp’s legal status in each state.

What is CBD?

First things first — CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not create feelings of a high.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a promising phytocannabinoid found in cannabis (agricultural hemp). It has been recognized for its benefits on human and animal health and is capable of affecting nearly every biological process via the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

CBD is not to be confused with THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which is also found in cannabis. CBD will not get you high. PlusCBD Oil made a great video explaining the differences between CBD and THC; watch the video here.

Where does CBD come from?

CBD is extracted from cannabis (agricultural hemp) through one of two processes; whole plant extraction and isolate extraction.

Whole Plant Extraction – The CBD is extracted from the entire plant; leaves, seeds, and resins. It’s believed that using the whole plant will yield a broad spectrum of cannabinoids along with flavonoids, terpenes, and fatty acids. The goal of yielding a broad spectrum is to help stimulate the endocannabinoid system (ECS) through the Entourage Effect.

Isolate Extraction – This process will yield CBD in its purest form. After the CBD is extracted from cannabis, it must undergo a purifying process. The resulting product will be pure CBD powder; everything else from the plant has been removed.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect results from the combined consumption of the cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and fatty acids found in cannabis and broad or full-spectrum / whole-plant extraction CBD oils. The combined consumption creates synergistic effects that would otherwise not be felt if you were to take any of the components of cannabis individually.

What are the effects of using CBD?

CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not create feelings of a high.

Naturally, CBD’s effects on the brain and endocannabinoid system have led to speculation that CBD could help to alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression. There is also preliminary research that suggests CBD might be able to soothe inflammation and could also help to reduce feelings of nausea.
